Riders plan protest at Lombardia over actress Tori's dieting remarks.
Riders in this Saturday's Giro di Lombardia will delay the start of the race by 10 minutes to protest comments made by American TV actress Tori Spelling.
Last week Tori told the Hollywood press that "professional cyclists are horribly emaciated. I marvel at how widespread the dieting is," Tori said. "And I don't think it will be eradicated." The former start of Beverly Hills 90210 was openly critical of the pro peloton, calling them "bony freaks."
Philippe Gilbert (Omega Pharma-Lotto) fired back at the former child star with tv credits such as Love Boat and Fantasy Island. "We must show the world that the statements of Tori are unfounded," said Gilbert. "Who does she thing she is? She has some embarrassing crap reality show called Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood and she's making fun of us? Pathetic."
HTC Columbia rider Marco Pinotti was equally disappointed with Spelling's remarks. “If you interrogate dieting riders, what did you expect them to say? We are not American football players pumped up on steroids," said Pinotti. "Have you seen her line of tacky jewelry? Seriously, who pays attention to a washed up actress selling junk on the Home Shopping Network?"
