Wiggins flying in Paris-Nice. Second in opening tt.

Bradley Wiggins has become a new person since the end of last season and the beginning of this one: Mr. Consistency. That's almost a surprise given his pale and skinny and fragile physique.

Last year the big news was his win in the Criterium Du Dauphine, his 3rd overall in Paris-Nice and his breakthrough podium ride in the Vuelta a Espana. Already in 2012 he has a time trial win in the Volta ao Algarve. The man who loves the Jam and Sex Pistols is firing on all cylinders.

Today in the wet and rainy conditions in Paris-Nice, the Race To The Occasional Sun, Wiggins didn't take risks but still finished one second behind Gustav Erik Larsson (Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling)

He powered over the 9.4km time trial from Dampierre-en-Yvelines to Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse with his trademark smooth cadence. "I didn't take any risks in the corners but I knew in a straight line I was flying,” Wiggins told the BBC.

You could argue that he's been flying since last year. His confidence seems Sky high and just the thought of those 100 time trial (now 105) kilometers in this year's Tour de France is extra motivation.

This feels like it could be the year for Wiggins in Le Tour and he's not taking any insane risks before he gets there.

"I wasn't willing to find out whether it was slippery so I never really pushed it as hard as I could have done in the corners," said Wiggins.
